Raúl De La Torre

Born in Barcelona in 1964, Raúl de la Torre began his academic journey at the University of Barcelona, initially pursuing a degree in Economics. However, his deep passion for art led him to attend the prestigious Massana Art School. After careful consideration, Raúl decided to leave art school to complete his degree in Economics.

Following a decade of experience working in the jewelry industry in London, New York, and Barcelona, Raúl took a bold step and founded his own business. He launched a successful clothing line, which expanded into four flagship stores, with distribution across Spain, France, and Italy. In 2002, he made the decision to sell his business and relocate to the United States.

Since then, Raúl has devoted himself entirely to his career as an artist. His work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions across the United States and Europe. Two significant highlights of his career include an exhibition at the renowned LACMA Art and Rental Gallery in 2010 and the unveiling of his POEMES SERIES at FP Contemporary in the “Poems and Affirmations” exhibition.

“During the COVID pandemic, I found myself in Brooklyn, navigating the first week of lockdown. This period became a profound source of inspiration, leading to the creation of the Brooklyn Series. The series reflects the vibrant colors, diverse people, sounds, poetry, and culture that make Brooklyn so unique. Each piece captures a different facet of Brooklyn’s essence, from its lively streets to its peaceful parks. To bring these artworks to life, I used a combination of mixed media on paper and canvas. My goal was to create organic textures that would truly embody the spirit of Brooklyn. Thick layers of acrylic paint provide depth and richness, while the incorporation of thread adds a tactile dimension that enhances the overall composition.”
